While unemployment figures are at their lowest in the Brittany region with a rate below the national average, the figures for business creation are soaring. But what are these entrepreneurship figures ?

An increase in business start-ups

Brittany is once again attracting companies. Indeed, according to INSEE, between the beginning of 2017 and the first quarter of 2018 this region saw the percentage of business start-ups increase by nearly 15% ! And especially in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine where this growth reached 15.2% in March 2018 compared to the previous year.

Fewer failures

The other major figure for the first quarter of 2018 is the fall in business insolvencies in Brittany. According to INSEE, the number of bankruptcies between the first quarter of 2017 and the first quarter of 2018 fell by 5.4%. And this figure concerns all sectors of activity, including micro-enterprises. As a result, the sector of activity that has recorded the greatest slowdown in bankruptcies since 2017 is construction, with a decline of more than 12%, closely followed by the business services and personal services sectors and their respective decreases of 8% and 7.7%.

The year 2017 and the beginning of the quarter 2018 confirmed the increase in business start-ups and the decline in the number of companies that have closed down. These indicators generally bode well for the recovery of economic growth.
